Workshop on Skills for Supporting Students in Addressing Psychological and Social Issues for Faculty Members

On June 11, 2024, the Faculty of Business Administration at Foreign Trade University successfully hosted a workshop titled “Skills for Supporting Students in Addressing Psychological and Social Issues for Faculty Members.” The event featured distinguished speaker Professor Joseph M. Cervantes from the Department of Counseling Psychology, School of Health and Human Development, California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), and was attended by faculty members from various departments across the university.

During the workshop, Professor Cervantes emphasized the importance of equipping faculty with knowledge and training in mental health. He discussed strategies to become a reliable “ally” for students, as well as the core principles of assisting students, connecting with personal emotions, understanding behaviors, effective listening, and identifying signs of mental health crises. The speaker provided in-depth explanations on these topics, offering valuable insights for faculty members.

In addition to the informative lecture, participants had the opportunity to engage in group discussions, practical exercises on problem-solving, and share personal experiences related to mental health in their own lives.

By the conclusion of the workshop, faculty members recognized the critical importance of supporting and caring for the mental well-being of students. It is hoped that they will not only excel as academic advisors but also serve as trusted “companions,” providing support to students in all aspects of life.
