Connecting Academia and Business: Working Together to Develop the Next Generation of Business Leaders

In an ongoing effort to enhance the quality of education and strengthen collaboration between academia and the business community, the School of Business under Foreign Trade University (FTU) organized an Evaluation Council for its Master’s programs in Business Administration, including the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) programs. This activity forms part of the School’s regular process of reviewing, updating, and refining its curricula, while also incorporating feedback from academics and business representatives to ensure their practical relevance and responsiveness to the needs of the labor market.

Representing the program-operating unit at the event were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Thu Hien, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, College of Business; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Thi Hoai Nhung; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Quan, both from the Faculty of Business Administration, College of Business; and Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hanh, M.Sc., representing the Faculty of Postgraduate Studies.

The Evaluation Council comprised Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thi Thu Thuy, Chair of the Evaluation Council, Foreign Trade University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Thi Tuoi, University of Labour and Social Affairs; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Tien Dat, Thuongmai University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoa Hong, Foreign Trade University; and Ms. Phung Thi Hai Ha, Marketing Director of Base.vn, representing the business community. The participation of experts from higher education institutions and the business sector brought diverse perspectives to the discussion, contributing to the enhancement of the training programs.

During the session, Council members focused on discussing, evaluating, and proposing a range of solutions to further refine the training objectives, program structure, course content, as well as teaching and learning methods. In particular, feedback from the business community helped incorporate emerging requirements of the business environment, trends in digital transformation, and the application of artificial intelligence (AI). This, in turn, enables the training programs to become increasingly closely aligned with the realities of business management.

College of Business’s MBA and EMBA programs are reviewed and updated every two years, with the aim of developing a new generation of business leaders equipped with in-depth knowledge of business administration, strong practical skills, and the capacity to organize, manage, operate, and lead businesses in the context of international integration and digital transformation. In addition to professional competencies, the programs place emphasis on developing professional acumen, ethics, a sense of responsibility, and the ability to undertake leadership, management, and consulting roles within organizations.

Seeking input from stakeholders, particularly the business community, is not only a requirement of quality assurance but also a foundation for developing highly practice-oriented training programs. While universities provide a solid foundation of academic knowledge and expertise, businesses serve as a bridge to real-world management practices, helping learners develop competencies that closely match market requirements and prepare them to adapt to changes in the business environment.

Looking ahead, College of Business – Foreign Trade University will continue to promote collaboration between academia and the business community, continuously innovating its training programs toward modernity, international integration, and practical relevance. Through these efforts, the College aims to contribute to developing a generation of business leaders with innovative thinking, strong application capabilities, and the capacity to lead businesses in the digital era.
