CROSS-BORDER E-COMMERCE IN PRACTICE: FROM “MADE IN VIETNAM” TO “SOLD WORLDWIDE”

On September 28, 2026, as part of the E-Commerce course taught by Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa – Head of the Training Program Development and Enhancement Division, Department of Academic Affairs, students had the opportunity to participate in a thematic session with Mr. Tran Quy Hien – Founder & CEO of Ecomstone Vietnam, an Amazon Global Selling partner in Vietnam since 2019 with more than eight years of experience supporting Vietnamese brands in international markets.

Exploring Cross-Border E-Commerce Through Industry Insights

The session provided students with practical perspectives on cross-border e-commerce, ranging from international consumer demand and the growth potential of Vietnamese brands on Amazon to challenges associated with tariff policies in the United States market.

Students also explored the development journey of a product entering international markets, from OEM and Private Label models to the process of developing an independent brand. The session further introduced a six-step process for conducting research and operating an e-commerce business, providing students with a broader understanding of how products can be developed and brought from the Vietnamese market to international consumers.

Connecting Classroom Knowledge with Real-World Business Problems

One of the key activities of the session was a practical case analysis. Student teams were asked to analyze a Vietnamese product, calculate its profit per unit, and evaluate its suitability for selling on Amazon US.

Through this practical exercise, factors including market conditions, costs, profitability, and operational feasibility were considered within a specific business context. This enabled students to apply classroom knowledge and develop a more practical assessment of a product’s potential in cross-border e-commerce.

The activity also highlighted that bringing Vietnamese products to international markets requires more than product quality. It requires a comprehensive understanding of target markets, cost structures, business models, and operational capabilities.

Expanding Perspectives on Bringing Vietnamese Products to Global Markets

Through the speaker’s practical insights and professional experience, the session strengthened the connection between academic knowledge and the real-world requirements of cross-border e-commerce. It also provided students with a broader perspective on the opportunities and challenges Vietnamese brands may encounter when entering international markets.

The School of Business sincerely thanks Mr. Tran Quy Hien for sharing his valuable knowledge and practical experience with the students. The insights gained from the session will serve as a valuable reference for students as they continue to develop their digital business mindset and gain a deeper understanding of the journey from “Made in Vietnam” to “Sold Worldwide.”
