“TRUNG THU CHO EM” – WHEN CLASSROOM LESSONS BECOME VALUES FOR THE COMMUNITY

Within the framework of the Public Relations Management course, students of the Faculty of Business Administration, Foreign Trade University – College of Business, jointly carried out the practical project “Trung Thu Cho Em” (Mid-Autumn for the Children) – a meaningful charitable fundraising journey aimed at bringing a warmer, more joyful Mid-Autumn Festival to children in mountainous regions.

The first phase of the project centered on fundraising through the simplest of means. Rather than opting for a straightforward call for donations, the students proactively conceived, prepared, and personally made sweet soup (chè) and cakes to sell in support of the project’s fund. From sourcing ingredients and preparing the products, to carrying out communications and organizing sales, every team member contributed directly, gradually transforming these modest initial efforts into a meaningful source of support for the journey ahead.

In the second phase, the journey’s destination was Lan Ca 2 Village, Huu Lien Commune, Lang Son Province. There, students personally prepared and distributed gift packages, as well as handcrafted lanterns to present to the local children.

The atmosphere at the village cultural house grew warmer and livelier than ever, as students and children gathered together to make star-shaped lanterns, take part in lively games, and enjoy a shared Mid-Autumn feast. Although the gifts themselves may not have carried great material value, they embodied a great deal of careful preparation, a strong sense of responsibility, and heartfelt affection that the students devoted wholeheartedly to the community.

It may be said that “Trung Thu Cho Em” was far more than simply a charitable activity; it constituted an integral part of an experiential learning journey. Building upon the foundational knowledge of community relations acquired through the Public Relations Management course, students were given the valuable opportunity to directly plan, organize, coordinate resources, and fully execute a community-oriented project in real-world practice.

More importantly still, this journey helped students develop a profound understanding that truly meaningful public relations work lies not merely in generating attention or media effect, but in its capacity to connect people with one another and to create positive, lasting value for society.
